Submissions Due: January 14, 2011

The Ethiopian Information Technology Professionals Association (EITPA) is issuing a call to IT professionals, researchers and scientists for professional and academic abstracts or papers for presentation during the EICTF 2011 and may be published as part of the written conference proceedings and/or online. The theme of the 2011 conference is “ Building Software in the Developing World.

Building computer systems in developing nations includes challenges unknown to IT teams in developed countries. The challenges we face include:

  • Power outages and fluctuations
  • Internet outages and lower bandwidth
  • Difficulty of finding, training, and retaining quality resources
  • Needing to support many languages (frequently requiring non-standard fonts)
  • Significant requirements mismatch with existing Commercial-Off-The-Shelf (COTS) systems.

In order for the systems being developed to be implemented successfully, these challenges must be addressed by IT teams.

This conference seeks presentations from professionals and academics that fit with the theme of the conference. However, papers on any information technology or telecommunication topics will be considered. Submissions for panels, half- and full-day tutorials on topics of relevance will also be accepted.

Topics of interest include but not limited to

  • Software Engineering
  • Development and Deployment Infrastructure
  • Internet Challenge and Opportunity
  • Database Systems
  • Computer Security
  • Localization
  • Forthcoming Computing Models (Cloud computing, Grid Computing, Pervasive Computing, Mobile Computing)

Each accepted author will receive a bound copy of the final conference proceeding. Electronic versions of the publication will be made available on the EICTF website after the conference.
